Fighting Giants, or Facing Big Problems
Most of us have encountered some BIG problem in our lives? Something that appears unbeatable. Maybe it is something that just won’t go away. In the Old Testament GIANTS are the picture of this
Perhaps your problem was caused by someone else and you have no control over it. Maybe your parents split up, or you never even met one of your parents. Perhaps your problem is that someone close to you died. Maybe someone has done something terrible to you. Or you have an illness. So what is your giant?
How did David successfully fight the giant, Goliath, in his life? Did he make excuses? Did he let fear stop him? Did he just wait and hope it would go away? Did he try to do it under his own power? Did he run away and hide? To take on the big problems or giants in your life you need to face them and let God help you.
How can God help you with your giant?
First, He is the God of comfort. God can help ease the pain if you let him. Matthew 5:4. “God blesses those who morn, for they will be comforted.” 2 Corinthians 1; 3, says God is “the source of every mercy and the God who comforts.”
Second, you probably can’t do it under your own strength. When Samson was left to his own strength he was captured by the Philistines. When David fought Goliath with God’s strength he was victorious. When we work then we work. When we pray then God works.
Third, you probably don’t have enough knowledge to get the best results. Why not ask for the one who is the author of knowledge. God is all knowing and knows what action will get the best results. Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Fighting giants is an interesting business. Very few of us are Davids, or able to fight our giants alone. But there is another example of a "giant Fighter" in the bible. His name is Caleb. Caleb was one of the 12 people sent to spy out the Promised Land. While others came back and reported in fear of giants, Caleb did not see them as a problem.
In Numbers 14:9 Caleb said "Do not fear the people of the land for they are our bread".
What looked like giants to others or big problems looked like bread to Caleb. Why is this? Because he knew to face down the giants in our lives is the spiritual nourishment for growth and you must keep at it to stay spiritually strong. Caleb latter said in Joshua 14:11 that he was as strong today as on the day that Moses sent him. "Just as my strength was then, so is my strength for war, both for going out and coming in. By this time Caleb was physically old he is eighty five but look what he asks for when Joshua asks him what land he wants. Seen in (Joshua 14) also (Judges 1:20), He could take what ever location he wanted but he asked for the land where Hebron was. The reason he gave was because it was where the Anakim were and the cities were fortified. And he said (Joshua 14:12 "It may be that the Lord will be with me and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said". This is an eighty five year old man and he's not looking to retire. He is still ready to battle giants (the Anakim).
So Hebron is a unique place the word Hebron means "alliance" or simply "fellowship". Caleb understood that "alliance or fellowship" (Hebron) is the place to be if you want to defeat giants. Doing it alone is dangerous. That’s were the living stones comes in. We are just a worthless rock on our own but together we are a "spiritual house" as in 1 Peter 2:5. Together we make up the body of Christ. We all have different gifts and without each other we are a crippled body because we lack some parts. Psalm 11:14 says, "Where there is no counsel the people fall. But in the multitude of counselors there is safety". Well I have seen, first hand, mightier men of God than me fall. Jesus said we are to be "one" and that they will know us by how we love each other. The ability to battle the spiritual battle comes in fellowship. Where two or more come together in prayer.
So our enemies and our problems are the things that bring you closer to God and will refine you and make you change. The bad times also give us the best opportunity to do God’s work. I think that the bad times in our lives are where we bear the most fruit. This is where the biggest changes happen in us and how we react to bad times can make the biggest impact on others.
As for those who have broken families. God may not put your parents back together. He won’t return your lost loved ones either. But God does have an answer to help. God wants to adopt you into His family. This family has incredible benefits and the greatest father. God’s family has all the love you could ever need. Romans 8:14. For as many are led by the spirit of God, These are sons of God. Matthew 12:50. “For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.” Being part of God’s family can help you get past the family problems that you have.

Mirror Mirror On The Wall

LOOK IN THE MIRROR DO YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE?
When you look at a mirror what do you see? Do you see the mirror or do you see what the mirror reflects?
Does it reflect light or darkness?
2 Corinthians 3:18. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the spirit of the Lord.
Here is another translation of 2 Corinthians 3:18. And we, with our unveiled faces, reflecting like mirrors the brightness of the Lord, all grow brighter and brighter as we are turned into the image that we reflect. This is the work of the Lord who is Spirit.
So one says, “beholding as in a mirror”, and another says, “reflecting like mirrors. “ Which one is right? One translation implies contemplating what you see. The other implies you are the mirror reflecting the image.
The answer is they may both be right. You say, “How can they both be right?” Well the verb originally used was Katoptrizo, and it can be translated either way. Which meaning did the author, Paul intend? He was relating being a Christian to the experience of Moses on Mount Sinai as we can see earlier in 2 Corinthians 3.
In Exodus 34, we see that when Moses returned off the Mountain after being with God and beholding God’s glory his face reflected the glory of God.
Beholding God leads to becoming more Christ like and this leads to reflecting God’s glory or light.
What do you do when you behold something? Is it a quick glance or just a casual look? I think it means to study or to stare or contemplate.
How might you behold, study or contemplate God today? How could you study and contemplate what God’s glory is? Well Jesus is the Word that became flesh, so to READ AND STUDY THE BIBLE you are beholding, or studying Jesus who is God in the flesh.
If the mirror is covered with dirt and grime what do you see? Does it reflect a true image?
Sin or disobedience of God in our lives is like dirt on our mirror. It makes us reflect a poor image of God to others.
2 Corinthians 5:17 says we are to be God’s ambassadors. When an ambassador of a country does something wrong how does it make the country look? Even if the behavior does not represent the country, it is how outsiders will perceive the country. It is not a true reflection of the country.
Does it say in 2 Corinthians 3: 18 to absorb God’s glory or light, or to reflect God’s glory or light?
Should we keep all that God gives us for our own benefit?
Of course not! Reflect it out to others! Matthew 5:16. “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.” Does it say so they will praise you? No, it's not about you.
We can see in 1 Peter 4:7-11. We are to glorify God by the way we treat others and glorify God with a lifestyle worthy of Him.
You are stranded on an island. You are going to use a mirror (by reflecting the light of the sun) to send a S.O.S. signal to a ship to rescue you.
What if the mirror had a mind of its own? Instead it would choose to send its own message. If it had a big ego it would say “look at me.” Instead of save me. If it was insecure it might not want to be seen and not send a message at all.You can be a mirror to reflect God’s light. Don’t let your insecurities, ego, or pride get in the way. Let God be in control of you and send the message through you that truly reflects His glory and light to others.
2 Thessalonians 1:11-12. We pray that God may count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of his goodness and the work of faith with power. That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you and you in Him, according to the grace of our God

This one is a short set from a Harvest Crusade at Anaheim CA. It has three songs tagged on from a Spirit West Coast show in Monterey CA in 2004. The sound is pretty good, in fact I thing the last three songs have better sound quality than the first five. I have never seen this one out there anywhere before. Always nice to get some new Delirious.

Jesus Comix
My daughter loves to draw, just like I did when I was her age. She likes the style of Japanese comix and illustrations. So when I found Manga style comix with Christian content I jumped at it.
I was pleased to be able to show her that using her talent could be directed in a direction that glorifies Jesus and still be cool. So here is a sample of a comix called "Manga Messiah". This is a sample that they have up at their web site.
I like how at the bottom of each page they tell you where in the bible the passage can be found.
In some cases it may take some liberties on translation, but at least it is telling the story and might just be the thing that opens up interest to Jesus to a different age group.
You can buy them at this web site. And they also have one about Apostle Paul called Manga Metamorphosis. There are also Old Testament subjects including one called Manga Mutiny, that appears to be the Genesis account up to Abraham and maybe even to Israelite captivity in Egypt, and another called Manga Melech that appears to be about the Israelites journey from Egypt to the promised land and then David becoming king of Israel. Then there is even one about Prophets and Kings called Manga Messengers.
If you want to purchase these Bible based comix here is the web site http://nextmanga.com/
While these might be a little liberal in interpretation or take some liberties, however it might be just the thing to help point a kid toward Jesus and take their focus off of the Transformers, Batman, Spiderman, GI Joe, Pokemon, Digimon, or even Sponge Bob.

Was Not or I AM
Sometimes I read the Bible and something just seems so boring. And I think.. . . . This is God's inspired word. It doesn't seem very inspired. As a matter of fact it's putting me to sleep.
Well that happened to me over this part. Genesis 5. We are only five little chapters into it, 12 pages in my bible, and here is this long list. This guy lives this may years and begot this one and the this guy lived this may years and begot that one. and on and on. But then I thought. every word is supposed to have reason and meaning. So I looked again. The first thing that stood out was in Genesis 3:5 Adam begot a son in his own likeness. Earlier Adam was made in God's likeness. But Adam made a son in his own likeness. and that effects every one. We are no longer in Gods likeness.
Anyway that could be a long side trip and it's not where I want to go. The second part that really stood out was that this long list of guys all live and then die except one. The exception appears to be important. Enoch walked with God three hundred years and "was not". So I thought about it and realized Gods name in Genesis is I AM. And the only guy in this whole list that walked with God was not. So he is the one
who gets it. And He "was not" and God is I AM.
well that is interesting. We all are trying to be somebody. But really God just wants us to be a was not. Wow that really relates to a lot of other scripture. Jesus said in Matthew 10:39 "He who finds his life will lose it and he who loses his life for My sake will find it." Well that list in Genesis 5 is the same thing. A bunch of people living their lives for self and dying or "loosing their lives" And one guy who makes his life about God and doesn't loose it.
It's not about trying to be somebody. It's about letting God be the somebody in your life
Look at John the Baptist. Jesus said he was the greatest of all the prophets. Why? He didn't lead a nation to freedom, bring fire from the sky, conquer the promised land. So what made him so great? He just pointed out to everyone who Jesus was. And then said there should be less of me and more of Him. We all, or at least I feel many of us need a little less of us and a little more of God in our lives. After all there is only one I AM and I'm not it. So try being was not today and See how it works for you. Give it a try. God can handle it. It's in His job description. A life worth living if full of living for others.

Christmas
For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6)But you Bethlehem. Through you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me The one to be ruler in Israel, Whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting. (Micah 5:2)
Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel (God is with us). (Isaiah 7:14)
Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man named Joseph, of the house of David. The Virgin’s name was Mary (Luke 1:26-27)
Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. (Luke1:30-31)
The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you: Therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son Of God. (Luke 1:35)
And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins. (Matthew 1:21)
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us. (John 1:14)
For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, laying in a manger. (Luke 2:11)
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. (John 3:16-17)

But Christmas Is The Wrong Day, Or Is It?

But Christmas Is The Wrong Day, Or Is It?
We Celebrate Christmas on December 25th but is it the right day? We think of Christmas as the birth of Jesus but what day would be His birthday? Well I am here to tell you that it is very unlikely that December 25th was the birthday of Jesus. So, let us look at the Bible for clues as to when Jesus would really have been born, and maybe discover a unique way to view and think about Christmas.
The first clue is the shepherds were living out in the fields watching their sheep by night (Luke 2:8) Shepherds from that area did not watch their flocks out in the fields by night in the winter. In winter they would bring the sheep into the low lands and the cities and towns because it got so cold. So we know that it was most likely not winter or December 25th.
The second clue is the birth of John the Baptist. John’s father was a priest named Zacharias who was old and married to an older woman named Elizabeth. They were unable to have children and an angel came to Zacharias and told him his wife would conceive. Zacharias was in the division of Abijah (Luke 1:5) serving in the temple when the angel came. The Priests of the division of Abijah were the ones who served in the eighth cycle and would be serving in the temple during June. So if his wife conceives in June, then John the Baptist was born around nine months later in March.
March is the time of the Passover when the Israelites would commemorate and celebrate the way they were delivered from Egypt. In this celebration they are looking for the Messiah who will come now to deliver them. So during this time the Jewish people would (and still do) put out an extra chair and table setting at the Seder or meal because they are waiting for Elijah. They know from a prophecy in Malachi that before the Messiah will come Elijah must appear. So they put out this chair and after dinner the children go out the door and look for Elijah. Jesus said that Elijah had come in spirit in the form of John the Baptist. So it is not a stretch to believe that John the Baptist in the spirit of Elijah came when they were waiting for the appearance of Elijah. I say this because in Colossians 2:17 it says the festivals are a shadow of things to come, and as I will show you God has actually fulfilled them on the exact day they take place.
In Luke 1 Mary is told by an angel that she will conceive through a miracle, and to go see her cousin Elizabeth who was six month pregnant (also a miracle) with John the Baptist. So six months after John was born Jesus was born. So if John was born in March during the Passover Jesus would have been born in September. Colossians 2:17 says the seven feasts are all about things to come and Jesus Christ. What do I mean? When the people were slaying a lamb in the temple on Passover Jesus the Lamb of God was being slain. When the people were celebrating the Passover they would do what is called Yahats. They take three pieces of matzah (unleavened bread) and the middle matzah of the three ceremonial pieces is broken and wrapped up and is put aside or hidden for the afikoman where the children are then sent to search for it. The kids are promised a reward to whoever finds it. While this was going on Jesus the middle part of the trinity whose body was broken was wrapped in grave clothes and hidden in a tomb. And dare I say there is a reward now for any one of His children who find Him. Then three days later on First Fruits Jesus was the first to rise up from the dead, the first to be born again (the first fruit). 50 days latter Pentecost is a feast about when they received the law and disobeyed and 3000 died. The fulfillment was when the Holy Spirit came and 3000 were saved on that day. The bible says the law brings forth death but the spirit brings life. All of these important events of Jesus happened on feast days to fulfill the prophetic meaning of them. Therefore it should not be surprising that Jesus was born on a feast day. So what feast is in September? Tabernacles
Tabernacles celebrate how God was with the Israelites in the desert 1500 years before Jesus came. Remember how God gave them bread (manna)? Well while they were remembering this God was giving us the real bread of life. The one who is the bread of life was birthed in Bethlehem (house of bread) only five miles from Jerusalem. In the time of Jesus four huge menorahs were being burned during this festival they were stories tall. The historian Josephus said you could see this light from a hundred miles away. At that same time there was this bright light at the temple in Jerusalem, the light that was come to earth was being born. John 1:4 said of His coming “In Him was life and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness did not comprehend it”. During the feast or festival of Tabernacles they had come into Jerusalem and camped in small tents (Tabernacles) and they were celebrating how God was with them in the desert. While they did this, just five miles away Jesus called Immanuel or “God is with us” was being born in a manger. In John 1:14 says “The Word became flesh and dwelt among us” the word used in Greek for dwelt is skeeno meaning to tent or encamp or dwell as God did in the tabernacle.
So the feasts all tie together and maybe Jesus was born in September during Tabernacles. But why is Christmas in December. Around the year 320 AD emperor Constantine became a Christian. The problem was most of the people were not Christian. At that time in the Roman Empire the biggest celebration of the people was called Saturnalia it was to celebrate the winter was half over. They put up evergreen trees a tradition they got from the Babylonians. Jeremiah chapter 10:1-4. Do not learn the way of the heathen, for one cuts a tree out of the forest. . . they decorate it with silver and gold. This came from a Pagan practice of worshiping false gods, and so does the Yule log, poinsettias, and holly. So if Jeremiah says don’t do it why do we? Well Emperor Constantine decided he could not change all the traditions because they were so ingrained, so instead he just redeemed it, He called it Christ’s Mass. He decided we will just say the symbols represent other things, and transform this pagan celebration into one about Jesus. So can God take something that is of pagan gods and make it something of value? Well of course, because God can take me and transform me so why not this stuff too? And the truth is He has done just that.
But it’s on the wrong day for Jesus Christ’s birth so what would be the point? Well if Christ was born on tabernacles which make sense then go back nine months and when would Jesus have been conceived? Well around December 25th. So on the darkest day of the year the light of the world came into the world, and ever since darkness has been pushed back or flees at it's presence.
The first Hanukkah was started in 164 BC when the Maccabeean brothers took back the temple from an evil occupation (Seleucid Empire) that had defiled it. So once they took back the temple the menorah was lit but they did not have any more oil. In the menorah was only a one day supply of oil. But it would take eight days to make a new batch of the holy oil. The oil lasted eight days (a miracle). So why is Christmas on December 25th? The reason is because a Roman Emperor decided to make it corespond with a Pagan celibration of the winter solstice. Is there however a significance when it comes to Jesus Christ? I think so. The first Hanukkah was on 25th of Chislue. So on that day they lit the menorah and the temple had light and was restored and cleaned. The temple represents the body and oil is a symbol of the Holy Spirit. So I believe there is a good chance that Jesus was conceived on that day to fulfill that festival day, and received a body (temple) and was conceived by the Holy Spirit (a miracle) at this same time. And the light of the world was concieved. So what does that have to do with us today? Well many of us are in a dark place in our lives. There is an area of our life that is dark and depressing, maybe something we are ashamed of. Maybe our body is defiled or occupied by something evil. Its dark and we know we should be joyful but we can’t get out of this dark place. There is no life in us you might say. We have a mess that needs cleaning in our life just like that temple that was a mess. No man can help us and this problem is too big too great it is beyond what a man can do. And you might say if I could just get out of this dark place maybe God could use me. But God loves to move into the darkest day to the places that are dark and closed up where no one has been (virgin territory). This secretive and closed off place in our lives.
So what happened to Mary in her dark and secret place where there was no life when God intervened? Mary said when told the news that she could be used by God “How can this be I don’t know a man” She thought nothing could be birthed in her dark and secret place without a man. But she then said “Be it unto me according to your will”. And something came to life in her. And that is all it takes for God to use us and birth something special in our lives out of the dark places of our lives. That’s all it takes for God to transform the darkness of our lives to light is simply to say “Be it according to your will”. You see Christmas is as much about conception as it is about birth.
Revelations 3:20 Jesus was talking to the church of Laodicea and He said, “Behold I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him.” So if you want the light to come into your dark problem this Christmas open the door. Christmas is not just about what God did 200 years ago but what God wants to do today. He wants to birth something in you this Christmas season in your darkness and your problems. He wants to transform the dark to light. He wants to redeem what was lost.
Isaiah 9:2 says this of the coming Christ, “The people have walked in darkness have seen the light. Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, upon them a light has shined. And Isaiah 9:6, “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given. . . . And His name shall be Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace”. So if you are in darkness and there has never been a darker day, and it is the middle of the winter so to speak, God wants to say this to you.
Isaiah 60:1-3 “Arise shine for thy light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, and deep darkness of the people. But the Lord will arise over you, and His glory will be seen upon you.” So this Christmas remember that it is not the wrong day after all, in fact it all happened at just the right time. And this Christmas think of this conception of this light to the world and see what God can birth in you this Christmas out of your darkness.
